Work-Sharing Agreements
Our Partnership with the ATU
The Jewish American Labor Council maintains work-sharing agreements with Amalgamated Transit Union local branches throughout the United States. Through these agreements, JALC provides dedicated Ombudsman assistance to ATU members and local unions — bringing our expertise in labor law, civil rights advocacy, and dispute resolution to transit workers on the front lines.
About the Amalgamated Transit Union
Founded in 1892, the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) is the largest union representing transit workers in the United States and Canada. With hundreds of local unions and over 200,000 members, the ATU represents bus drivers, subway and light rail operators, maintenance workers, and paratransit employees. The ATU is affiliated with the AFL-CIO and the Canadian Labour Congress.

Under our work-sharing agreements, JALC provides the following services to ATU local unions and their members:
Workplace Dispute Resolution
Neutral, confidential assistance in resolving workplace conflicts between employees, supervisors, and management — helping transit workers find fair outcomes without costly litigation.
Discrimination & Harassment Cases
Advocacy and representation in discrimination and harassment claims arising under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, including race, color, religion, sex, and national origin protections.
Whistleblower & Retaliation Claims
Protection and advocacy for private sector employees who report illegal activity, safety violations, or fraud — defending transit workers against unlawful retaliation by employers.
Unfair Labor Practice Claims
Filing and prosecuting Unfair Labor Practice charges against employers who interfere with workers' rights to organize, bargain collectively, or engage in protected concerted activity.
Collective Bargaining & Contract Negotiations
Strategic support and technical assistance for ATU locals engaged in collective bargaining — helping negotiators secure fair wages, benefits, and working conditions for transit workers.
Arbitration & Mediation
Skilled representation in grievance arbitration and labor-management mediation proceedings, ensuring ATU members receive a fair hearing and enforceable outcomes.
